This is a short clip from the KWVA-FM performance by Brian James & The Revival on Jan 5, 2020, with me on keyboards, Brian on guitar/vocals, Tim Donahue on drums, and Lance Seiders on bass.
The video below is Ashley Schmittle's solo from her choir's "900 Miles" when she was just 13 years old.
Ashley made this arrangement of "Do Nothing Til You Hear From Me" with her school combo, and I really like it. She wanted something more up-tempo than the slow ballad approach of Ella Fitzgerald or Billie Holiday. Myself, I love her starting with just the bass. I especially love her little homage to Gershwin's "I Got Rhythm", which seemed to surprise her teacher, judging by the "So there!" smile she threw him. Anyway, here you go.
Yay! Now it's Carson's turn. Here's a very short excerpt from last night's show, where Absolute Improv opened for Second City. It's just the intro, with segue to the finale. I'll post longer when I figure out how. Somehow, cattle in an Old West town are suddenly free to graze. The whole troupe did great and were well-received. My son, Carson, is the train locomotive -- Hop on board! Don't ask; you had to be there.
:-)
Here is Ashley Schmittle singing Joy Williams' "Woman (Oh Mama)" with her a cappella group "Synergy", at the Oregon quarter-finals last night. The judges gave Ashley best solo award, and her comrade Jane Brinkley best choreography award. It's a super number, and all the kids did so great! So proud of them all. So much hard work.
This is from Ashley's debut singing at Mac's, a blues club here in Eugene, when she was 14 years old.
